Volunteers serve a wide variety of functions at the PURE Insurance Championship and for many positions, no golf experience is required. Most volunteer committees require a minimum of three days of participation.

Previous committee volunteers are given priority placement on all committees.
Committees denoted by an asterisk (*) require pre-approval by committee chair.
Committees denoted by two asterisks (**) are by invitation only and the link to register for the tournament is sent by email.

Volunteer Positions

ADA and Volunteer Transportation
Tuesday – Sunday
Assist in transporting volunteers and spectators with a priority to people with mobility needs between the parking areas and the golf courses.

  • Requirements: Must have a valid driver’s license, complete a Motor Vehicle Record Information Authorization form, and have a clean driving record if you will be driving a tournament vehicle.
  • Days of Operation: Must volunteer a minimum of 3 all-day shifts. Shifts are Tuesday – Sunday.

Caddie Hospitality
Tuesday – Sunday
Register the caddies, distribute information, bibs, and towels, retrieve bibs and towels, organize bibs for the next round, and assist with daily clean-up of the caddie area.

  • Days of Operation: Must volunteer a minimum of 3 days. Shifts are Tuesday – Sunday.

Corporate Host
Friday – Sunday
Greet guests and check credentials for entry to the corporate sponsor hospitality areas. Greet, interact, and provide assistance to spectators and corporate guests when entering the tournament.

  • Days of Operation: Must volunteer a minimum of 2 shifts. Shifts are Friday – Sunday.

First Tee Chapter Escort
Saturday & Sunday
Escort First Tee chapter students to experience and enjoy the tournament. This position requires a great deal of walking around the course.

  • Requirements: Must be able to walk for extended periods.
  • Days of Operation: Must volunteer a minimum of 2 shifts. Shifts are Saturday and Sunday.

Gallery Management Ambassador
Friday – Sunday
Gallery Management Ambassadors are given a unique inside and outside the ropes experience. Volunteers are responsible for managing gallery noise and traffic; ensuring the safety of our guests by reinforcing health and safety policies; leading by example; and providing a world-class guest experience. Volunteers are also responsible for locating balls that go outside the ropes, as well as rope and stake control when the ball is near a rope or stake that interferes with the professional’s swing. Gallery Management Ambassadors are assigned to the teeing area, fairway and green of a specific hole (1-18), or to high traffic areas such as practice locations, crosswalks, and hospitality areas. Volunteers will be outside in direct sunlight and the elements.

  • Requirements: Must be able to stand for extended periods.
  • Days of Operation: Must volunteer for 3 full days on Friday – Sunday.

Golf Channel Spotters
Friday – Sunday
Spotters are assigned to follow a specific player group on the course to assist the Golf Channel production team with various scoring details. Basic golf scoring knowledge and the ability to walk the course are required. Volunteers will be outside in direct sunlight and the elements.

  • Requirements: Must have basic golf scoring knowledge and be able to walk 18 holes.
  • Days of Operation: Must volunteer for 3 full days on Friday – Sunday.

Honorary Observer Coordinators
Friday – Sunday mornings
Coordinate and check in the Honorary Observers that accompany player groups during their round.

  • Requirements: Must be comfortable interacting with VIP guests.
  • Days of Operation: Must volunteer a minimum of 3 shifts. Shifts are Friday – Sunday.

Montage Health First Aid**
Tuesday – Sunday
Manage and provide first aid at designated First Aid tents located at each golf course. Space is limited; application does not guarantee a volunteer opportunity. First Aid volunteers have a separate registration that is invite-only and sent via email by Montage Health.

  • Requirements: Must be an employee of a Montage Health entity, have hospital privileges, be on staff, or be a member of Volunteer Support Services.
  • Days of Operation: Shifts are Tuesday – Sunday.

Player Gifting
Tuesday – Thursday
Assist Player Relations assemble and distribute player gifts for professional and amateurs. New volunteers are considered with a recommendation from a current committee member or by the chair.

  • Days of Operation: Must volunteer a minimum of 2 shifts. Shifts are Tuesday – Thursday.

Player Hospitality
Tuesday – Sunday
Serve as hosts in the Player Hospitality venue. Check credentials for entrance and answer questions from pro players, amateur players, and their families.

  • Days of Operation: Must volunteer a minimum of 3 shifts with at least 1 morning shift. Shifts are Tuesday – Sunday.

Player Refreshments Tents
Tuesday – Sunday
Serve as hosts at an on-course player refreshment tent. Volunteers will need to restock food and beverages and should be able to lift up to 25 lbs. Volunteers will be outside in direct sunlight and the elements in some locations.

  • Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Days of Operation: Must volunteer a minimum of 3 full days. Shifts are Tuesday – Sunday.

Player Registration
Tuesday – Thursday
Process registration with our amateur and professional players. New volunteers are considered with a recommendation from a current committee member or by the chair.

  • Days of Operation: Must volunteer a minimum of 2 shifts. Shifts are Tuesday – Thursday.

Player Shuttles
Tuesday – Sunday
Drive a tournament vehicle to transport players and caddies throughout both tournament courses. Provide transportation during a course evacuation. Volunteers unfamiliar with Pebble Beach roads may be assigned as loaders, who must be able to stand outdoors for several hours.

  • Requirements: Must have a valid driver’s license, complete a Motor Vehicle Record Information Authorization form, and have a clean driving record.
  • Days of Operation: Must volunteer a minimum of 3 all-day shifts. Shifts are Tuesday – Sunday.

Public Safety
Tuesday – Sunday
Assist with the security of the tournament on both courses and at all venues.

  • Requirements: Must have a background in law enforcement, security, or as a first responder.
  • Days of Operation: Must volunteer a minimum of 3 all-day shifts. Shifts are Tuesday – Sunday.

Standard Bearers
Friday – Sunday
Standard Bearers will work directly with First Tee – Monterey County program participants to ensure their time on the course is a success. They may walk as well and will work with the Walking Scorer to accompany each group of players during tournament rounds and display their scores in relation to par on a cumulative basis on a standard (small scoreboard). Standard Bearers must be able to carry the standard sign (weight approximately 5 to 7 pounds) for all 18 holes with their group and must understand basic stroke counting and the game of golf. Volunteers will be outside in direct sunlight and the elements.

Uniform & Gift Distribution
Pre-tournament Sunday – tournament week Sunday
Inventory, organize, and distribute volunteer appreciation gifts and hats. Inventory, organize, sell, and distribute uniforms.

  • Days of Operation: Must volunteer a minimum of 3 shifts. Shifts are Pre-tournament Sunday – Friday.

Volunteer Hospitality
Tuesday – Sunday
Support your fellow volunteers throughout the week! Serve as a friendly host at the volunteer hospitality venue and distribute food and beverages to volunteers.

  • Days of Operation: Must volunteer a minimum of 3 shifts. Shifts are Tuesday – Sunday.

Walking Scorer*
Friday – Sunday
The Walking Scorer role is a prestigious and critical volunteer position that requires mental and physical stamina, attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of the game of golf. The Walking Scorer accompanies a group of up to 4 players to keep their score, track specific statistics, and provide real-time data that informs all aspects of the ShotLink system. Walking scorers should have the physical ability to easily keep pace across all 18 holes without a break (for reference, 18 holes will vary from 5-6 miles). They should be comfortable using the handheld digital device they will be issued for data capture, as well as the voice radio with a headset that allows for constant communication with the ShotLink staff. Volunteers will be outside in direct sunlight and the elements.

  • Requirements: Must complete a ShotLink Disclosure form and an online training course and attend an in-person training on Thursday of tournament week. Must have thorough understanding of the game of golf and be able to walk 18 holes.
  • Days of Operation: Must volunteer a minimum of 2 full days, must include Friday and Saturday
