Chevron continues support with $100,000 to First Tee College Scholarships

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (Sept. 17, 2024) – Chevron U.S.A. Inc. will continue its support of First Tee College Scholarships with a $100,000 donation announced at the 2024 PURE Insurance Championship Pairings Party at the Pebble Beach Golf Academy. Since its inception in 2020, the First Tee College Scholarship Program has served 94 young adults through mentorship, professional development and financial support.

For the second consecutive year, players in the PURE Insurance Championship junior field also competed in a closest to the pin contest Tuesday, with five girls and five boys winning $2,000 each in support for their First Tee chapter.

“Chevron strives to provide access and to create opportunities for young men and women to learn character and life skills through golf,” said First Tee Trustee and Chevron Vice President and General Counsel Hewitt Pate. “We recognize the impactful and growing efforts of First Tee, and we are proud to continue our support of First Tee College Scholarships to help inspire and develop future leaders.”

Since becoming a First Tee Trustee in 2012, Chevron has committed more than $4 million in support of the youth development organization, which served more than 3.3 million kids and teens in 2023.

Hosted by Monterey Peninsula Foundation, the PURE Insurance Championship partners top professionals from PGA TOUR Champions, First Tee juniors and amateurs from the business world for three rounds of competition and mentorship at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill Golf Course. On Sunday, the final round is held solely at Pebble Beach, where 24 First Tee juniors compete based on their 36-hole performance. The tournament will crown one male and one female junior champion.

Chaired by Clint Eastwood, the tournament is nationally televised on Golf Channel. The public will be admitted free to view play on Pebble Beach Golf Links only. Complimentary parking is offered at Special Events Field/Lot 10 in Pebble Beach, with a shuttle service provided directly to the course.

For more than two decades, First Tee teens have played in the PURE Insurance Championship, experiencing the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet, play and be mentored by PGA TOUR Champions players and amateurs in the field.

First Tee is a youth development organization that teaches life skills and helps kids and teens build strength of character through golf. The PURE Insurance Championship is one of several national opportunities organized by First Tee headquarters to encourage and motivate participants as they progress through the program and toward higher education opportunities.
